Privacy policy

simplesolat doesn't collect personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no tracking and no ads. This page explains what the app does with the few things it needs.
Your location
- Why: to work out which prayer zone you're in, so the app shows the right times, and so widgets can switch zones when you travel.
- How: the app checks your location against zone boundaries it has downloaded, entirely on your phone.
- Never sent anywhere: your location isn't stored on or sent to any server.
- Background location: used only so widgets and reminders can follow you to a new zone without you opening the app.
Prayer times
- For countries with an official timetable, the app downloads the timetable for your zone from the public simplesolat-data files, served by Netlify. Like any website, Netlify can see your IP address and which file was requested, which reveals the zone, not your exact location.
- Elsewhere, prayer times are calculated on your phone, with no network request.
- Timetables and zone boundaries are kept on your phone, so most days the app makes no network requests at all.
-
Older versions of the app (1.0.x) fetched timetables by zone from
api.simplesolat.cominstead. It also receives only the zone, never your location.
Permissions
- Location, as described above.
- Notifications, for prayer time reminders.
- Alarms & reminders and battery optimisation exemptions, so reminders and widgets arrive on time.
Reminders are scheduled on your phone. Nothing about them is sent anywhere.
This website
simplesolat.com has no analytics and no cookies. If you use "Use my location" on the live prayer times, your location is matched to a zone in your browser and isn't sent anywhere. The page remembers the zone you last chose in your browser's local storage, only on your device.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page, with a new date at the top.
