Common problems

Reminders arrive late, or not at all

First check that notifications are allowed for simplesolat (Settings › Apps › simplesolat › Notifications), and that the prayer's reminder is switched on in simplesolat's own Settings. Its Permissions list shows anything missing, with a Fix button.

On Android, many phones also stop apps running in the background to save battery, which delays reminders and widget updates. Set simplesolat's battery usage to Unrestricted (usually under Settings › Apps › simplesolat › Battery), and allow Alarms & reminders if your phone asks. The exact steps differ by brand; Don't kill my app! has a guide for each one.

On iPhone, reminders are set about 12 days ahead, and a short note reminds you to open the app before they run out. Opening simplesolat now and then keeps them coming.

The widget isn't updating

On Android, it's usually the same battery setting as above. Widgets refresh in the background about every 15 minutes, and when a prayer time begins. To follow you when you travel, the app also needs location access all the time, not only while it's open.

On iPhone, open simplesolat once before adding the widget, so it has the times to show. To follow you when you travel, allow location Always (Settings › simplesolat › Location).

It shows the wrong zone

Check that location is turned on and allowed for simplesolat. The zone is worked out from your location, so a rough or old location can land you in a neighbouring zone. Opening the app updates it.

The app closes as soon as I open it

On Android, update simplesolat from Google Play first: recent versions fix crashes when opening the app.

If it still closes, clear the app's data: Settings › Apps › simplesolat › Storage › Clear data. You won't lose anything important; the app finds your zone again and downloads the times. If that doesn't help, email me.

The times are slightly different from my mosque

Where there's an official timetable, the app uses it exactly. Local mosques sometimes adjust by a minute or two. Outside those nine countries, times are calculated, and can differ a little from local practice. See where the times come from.

Does simplesolat collect my data?

No. There's no account, no ads and no analytics, and your location never leaves your phone. See the privacy policy.
